Many of our Y10 and Y11 rugby players climbed Slieve Donard today as part of their fundraising efforts for the rugby trip to South Africa next summer.
The group, ably led by Alistair Johnston, made great time as they ascended the highest mountain in Northern Ireland. The group travelled via the Glen River route, up through Donard Wood and turned left when they reached the Mourne Wall. The steep terrain didn't hinder the boys progress although some of the staff started to feel their age!
The group reached the summit in about 2 hours and then had a break for lunch at the top. Then it was a few pictures before the trek down again.
Everyone had a great day and enjoyed the wonderful views in glorious sunshine.
In February a multitude of tractors swept our of Coleraine Grammar School and traversed the roads before returning for a barbecue.
Former Ulster and Ireland captain Rory Best OBE joined fellow Ulster and Ireland legend and Coleraine Inst old boy Jonny Bell, Coleraine Grammar School Head of Sport Richard Beggs and CEO of Tenth Revolution James Lloyd-Townshend to play 72 holes of golf in a single day.
Several relay teams, made up of pupils, parents and staff raised money by running the Belfast Marathon.
The players, parents and staff had a rugby dinner to raise money for the trip.
A large group of golfers with links to the school braved the weather for a round at Portrush Golf Club.
Pupils perched on exercise bikes in the middle of Coleraine to entice shoppers to support their trip.
At Christmas time a group got together to make wreaths in the school gym.
A group of parents sold tea, coffee, burgers and sweets to spectators at many of the home rugby matches.
There were also many companies who have took out advertising in the Tour Magazine and have supported CGS rugby for years.
